God’s Pearl
It is written that the fear of the Lord is to hate evil, pride, arrogance and the evil way. (Pro.8:13) And the evil way is the way of Cain, who tried to please God by his “righteous” works. So it turns out that the fear of the Lord is nothing other than hatred and contempt for human self-righteousness and pride. Jesus, acting in the spirit of the fear of the Lord, rebuked the followers of Cain, calling them hypocrites and a brood of vipers.
