Christ Is the Eternal Word, and the Bible Is the God-Breathed Word
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
— 2 Timothy 3:16
Teachings have now appeared such as: “The Bible is not the Word of God, Jesus is the Word”, “I communicate with God personally, and I don’t need the Bible”, and so on. Many [mostly unbelievers, and I was one of them] think that the Bible is not authentic and has been changed by people over the years. In fact, this is a lie from the devil, who is trying to keep people deceived. For if we believe that even one word in Scripture is false, then the whole Bible is false, and there is no point believing what is written in it. The Lord once gave me a revelation that He has preserved the Scriptures in exactly the form He wanted. Some keep arguing about the authenticity of various translations, but it is not translations that reveal the truth, but the Holy Spirit through the Bible, as Jesus did when He opened the disciples’ understanding to comprehend the Scriptures [Luk.24:45]
Is Jesus the Word of God? Of course He is! Is the Bible the Word of God? Yes, it is too! In Greek there are two words meaning “word”. One is logos, and the other is rhema. Logos is the word that is, that abides forever and contains the truth. Rhema is a word spoken by breathing out, and it testifies to the truth. Jesus said: “The words [rhema] that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” [Jhn.6:63] The words of Jesus are not only those He spoke personally, but also those He spoke through His apostles and prophets.
Jesus is the logos, the One who is forever. The Bible, or the Scriptures, is the word spoken by God and written down by a man of God. Peter writes: “knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” [2 Pet.1:20-21] That is, all Scripture was spoken by man [or rather, by God] at the prompting of the Holy Spirit. I want to draw your attention to the word “spoke”.
Can we communicate with God directly, and not through the Scriptures? Of course we can. The Lord tells me things too, even through the cash register in a shop, but that is personal communication. There is also the doctrine, or teaching, of the apostles [Act.2:42], on which our faith is built. It is very important, because our life is directly connected with what we believe, and the source of our doctrine must always be the Scriptures, not someone’s personal visions, feelings or imaginations. Even the apostles who wrote the books of the New Testament, and Jesus Himself, always referred to passages of Scripture in the Old Testament to confirm the truth of what they said.
That is why the Scriptures are the unshakable source of truth through which we come to know Jesus [for all Scripture speaks of Him], expose false visions, correct wrong teachings and instruct the people of God in the righteousness of Christ!
